The word Duffle originally referred to a Heavy Woollen Cloth closely woven for warmth & manufactured in the Belgian Town of Duffel. However over the years it has come to signify a hooded coat with distinctive toggle fastenings which was adopted by the British Navy & used by officers & men of the watch to protect against the biting Atlantic & North Sea winds. The toggles could be unfastened whilst wearing thick gloves, & hoods were carefully designed to fit over peaked Naval caps. Â Gloverall still maintains this Naval link through the Iconic â Montyâ & its application to the service highlighted by its namesake Field Viscount Montgomery & is worn by Jack Hawkins in the film â The Cruel Seaâ. The design of the latter is a replica of the original retaining its characteristic rope & wood toggling, webbing stays & two piece hood. Â This limited edition version of the classic Monty comes with all the original features though Gloverall have partially lined the coat with a cotton & linen mix Union Jack. Â MADE IN ENGLAND Â 90% Wool, 10% nylon, lining 60% cotton, 40% linen. Long Sleeved
