This publication has a wide circulation of more than 1.31 million. The magazine was first called Sports Cars Illustrated and it was renamed Car and Driver in 1961. In 2005 the publication celebrated its 50th anniversary.It is a sister publication to Road and Track Magazine. Over the years the publication has included a variety of well known contributors including Bruce McCall Dick Smothers Jean Shepherd Brock Yates and PJ O’Rourke.The magazine gives out an award called the John Lingenfelter Memorial Trophy on an annual basis which is presented at the Car and Driver Supercar Challenge.
