Reporters Sans Frontiere Reporters Sans Frontiere or Reporters without Borders (RWB) is a French-based international non-governmental organization that advocates freedom of the press & freedom of information. This organization has consultant status at the United Nations. It was founded in 1985 by Robert Ménard Rony Brauman & the journalist Jean-Claude Guillebaud. It fights for the Freedom of the Press & against Censorship & attempts against free journalism. Reporters without Borders or Reporters Sans Frontiere is a founding member of the entity called International Freedom of Expression Exchange which is a virtual network of non-governmental organizations which monitor free expression violations worldwide & defends journalists writers & others who are persecuted for exercising their right to freedom of expression. Through its correspondents RWB conducts investigations of press freedom violations by regional powers. It releases annual reports on each country as well as the Press Freedom Index which is an index for the freedom of the press in each country. If it feels necessary it sends a team of its own to assess working conditions for journalists in a certain country to better evaluate the scenario. Reporters Sans Frontiere or Reporters without Borders’ primary means of direct action include appeals to government authorities of the concerned country through letters or petitions as well as frequent press releases in the international media to raise awareness & to free the convicted journalists. Over the years Reporters without Boundaries or Reporters Sans Frontiere has published several books to raise public awareness about threats to the press freedom around the world. One such publication “ Handbook for Bloggers & Cyber-Dissidents” which was launched in September 2005 provides technical tips on how to become an effective anonymous blogger & avoid censorship. RWB also releases materials intended for journalists concerning their safety or information on how to apply for political asylum. Reporters Sans Frontiere is a very important entity in International Press without constant protesting Press & free speech may have been greatly endangered.
