The Pride shoe is part of the Mike Shinoda DC Remix Series Collection, in conjunction with the Glorious Excess (Born) art show on display at the Japanese American National Museum in downtown LA. This second DC Remix Series project is a great juxtaposition of Mike's unique influences: accomplished artist versus record-breaking musician, American upbringing versus Japanese heritage. Mike chose traditional Japanese patterns & koi scale textures for his shoe & packaging; the sole features custom fish scale tooling created just for this project & artwork sublimated underneath. 'I've always loved fish, especially koi, & I thought the scales would make a fun pattern for the bottom of the shoe.' The many patterns in the in-box booklet & packaging reference fabrics & origami paper patterns that surrounded Shinoda growing up. ' When I was young, some people were surprised to find out that I am half Japanese. Growing up, I always looked forward to celebrating each New Year's Day with that side of my family. I love Japanese food & art, so I guess it's no surprise that those things sometimes end up being a part of my work.' Mike's art, renditions of his latest work, is found on the upper, the insole, & the outsole; his signature is on the heel; & 'limited edition' is embroidered in Japanese on the tongue.
